Several Independents Increase Finished Lube Prices
Several Independent lubricant companies, including Cam2, Smitty's Supply, Pinnacle Oil and Chemlube International have announced finished lubricant price increases the past week or so. The price increases range from 28 cents per gallon to a high of 70 cents per gallon, most of these effective mid-May 2010.

Calumet Reports 1Q Net Loss
Calumet last Wednesday reported a net loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 of $13.1 million compared to net income of $75.6 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. Net income for the first quarter of 2010 decreased by $88.7 million as compared to the same period in 2009, due primarily to both a decrease of $47.3 million in gross profit and decreased unrealized derivative gains of $47.5 million.

Integrated Oil Companies' 1Q Earnings Parade Continues
Last week several more integrated oil companies including Canada's Suncor Energy, Marathon, Spain's Repsol and PetroChina reported excellent first quarter 2010 earnings. Suncor Energy Inc. reported first quarter 2010 net earnings of $716 million compared to a net loss of $189 million for the first quarter of 2009; Marathon reported $457 million compared to $282 million; Repsol posted 688 million euros, 30% more than the previous year; and Petrochina said first quarter profit jumped 71.2%.

Asia Pacific Region Base Oil Rally Stalls
The base oil market in the Asia Pacific region came to a standstill this past week. What initially was thought of as another upward rally due to ExxonMobil Singapore price hike announcement on 27 April 2010, was halted in South East Asia. Buyers were seen resisting to the higher prices to commit further, being of the view that supply tightness has already been factored in the escalating prices.
