Ford Motor: Don't Waste Money on 3,000 Mile Oil Changes
Ford Motor Company, on its website a couple weeks ago, issued its opinion regarding several long standing maintenance myths. Ford stated that those snippets of advice consumers have been hearing for years and years might be outdated – or just plain wrong. Of these, according to Ford, consumers no longer need to get the oil changed every 3,000 miles and don’t need to buy gas in the morning to save money.

Cognis Net Profit Increases; Functional Products Sales Fall 17.1 Percent
In 2009, global specialty chemicals supplier Cognis reported that net profit from continuing operations improved significantly, by 74 million euros, to 25 million euros. Sales volumes decreased by 7.8 percent compared to the previous year. Sales revenue decreased by 13.9 percent to 2,584 million euros (US$ 3,465), (down 13.2 percent on an organic basis).

Fuchs Petrolub Sales Fall, Earnings Rise
Fuchs Petrolub AG last week issued its 2009 financial results. Earnings before interest and tax reached EUR 179.9 (US$ 241) million in the full year period compared to EUR 171.7 the previous year. The company was able to increase profit after tax to EUR 121.4 million. Sales revenues fell by 15.5% to a level of EUR 1,178.1 million in 2009 despite positive price effects, vs. EUR 1,393.7 million in 2008.

Albemarle to Increase Price of ETHANOX(R) Fuel and Lubricant Antioxidants
Albemarle has announced that it will increase prices of its ETHANOX antioxidants for fuel and lubricant market segments globally by 15%. The increase will be applied on all shipments on or after May 1, 2010, or as contracts allow. Albemarle's ETHANOX antioxidants are widely used in lubricant, fuel and biofuel applications. The ETHANOX product line is part of the company's Polymer Solutions business segment.

Asia Pacific Base Oil Market Continues to Rise
The Asia Pacific base oil market rose further last week on persistent supply tightness and optimism of strengthening demand throughout the region. Prices for all base oil grades moved to greater heights. Heavier grades are still leading the pack while the lighter ones are gaining upward momentum. Both Group I and Group II base oils rose higher.
