Eaton Revises Both Its Roadranger Approved Lubricants List and Its Roadranger Lubrication Manual

Eaton has revised its Roadranger Products Approved Lubricants List (TCMT0020), listing a few additional suppliers of approved fluids for use in its transmissions and drive axles. Eaton has also just revised its Roadranger Products Lubrication Manual (TCMT0021), which covers lubrication of its transmissions, drive axles, steer axles, clutches, brakes, driveline, and wheel ends.

In mid-February Infineum launched Infineum P5711, which meets the new ILSAC GF-5 passenger car engine oil (PCEO) performance category and the challenging new dexos™ 1 specification. General Motors (GM) will stipulate the new dexos™ 1 specification globally in factory fill and service fill applications for its 2011 model year and later vehicles.

BP to Sell Its Marketing Businesses in Five African Countries

BP has announced that it intends to sell the marketing businesses in Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana. This follows a strategic review by BP into its refining and marketing businesses in southern Africa which showed the company should focus on those countries which offered the greatest synergies with its supply portfolio which are Mozambique and South Africa.

Balmer Lawrie UK and Indonesia's PT Imani Wicaksana Launch 50:50 Lubes JV in Indonesia

Balmer Lawrie & Company last week announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Balmer Lawrie (UK), has launched a 50:50 joint venture company under the name of PT Imani Ganda Utama (PTIGU) at Indonesia with an existing Indonesian Company, PT Imani Wicaksana. The company plans to set up a $5 million, 6,000 ton plant in Indonesia for manufacturing lubricants in Indonesia.

Asia Pacific Base Oil Market Report

Last week, we highlighted the imminent disruption of base oil supply from the South East Asia (SEA) region. There are at least three SEA Group I base oil plants shutting down in March alone. Thai Lube’s 270 kmt and ExxonMobil’s Singapore plants are down for maintenance, while Indonesian Pertamina’s Cilacap’s 440 kmt plant production has been cut in half since late January due to an explosion.

Eastern Hemisphere Lube Base Oil Price Report

Crude oil prices traded in a range of US$78-82 per barrel, with light sweet crude oil closing at US$81.77 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange last Friday. Several analysts and traders are predicting that crude oil will climb to $85-$90 per barrel within the next few weeks. Eastern hemisphere base oil prices showed a small downward bias in most regions. Heavy Solvent Neutrals ex-Europe, though, increased by US$15-$20 per MT.
