Saudi Aramco Luberef II to Produce Group III Base Oil

Three weeks ago we ran a story 'Saudi Aramco Luberef II Base Oil Refinery Expanding' in which it was stated that Luberef plans to increase the lube base oil production capacity at the Yanbu facility, referred to as Luberef II. We have since learned that the increased capacity at Luberef II will be for the production of API Group III base oils.

BP to Sell Its Castrol Lube Blending Plant in Toronto

Wakefield Canada and BP Lubricants USA announced last week that they have signed an agreement for Wakefield to purchase the Castrol Canada lube blending and packaging plant located in Toronto, Ontario. Under the terms of the agreement, Wakefield will assume ownership of the plant and manufacturing responsibility for the plant, blending and packaging most Castrol products for the Canadian marketplace.

Lubrizol Projects Earnings to Increase 32% by 2012

Lubrizol announced last week that it projects steady earnings growth during the next several years and has established a 2012 goal for earnings of $10.00 per share, an increase of 32 percent compared with 2009 results as adjusted. Based on the number of shares outstanding, this $10.00 per share equates to approximately $682 million estimated for 2012. Three weeks ago, Lubrizol reported earnings for the full year of 2009 were $501 million.

Shell Tongyi (Beijing) Petrochemical to Expand Annual Lube Production Capacity 300,000 MT

Shell Tongyi (Beijing) Petrochemical reportedly plans to expand its lubricant production capacity in Jiangsu's Wuxi to 300,000 mt/yr before the end of this year, up sharply from the present 100,000 mt/yr, according to a source with the company. The company has started its expansion project, which includes upgrading its refinery in Wuxi and acquiring some of the Luroda Lubricants Company Ltd plant also in Wuxi.

Asia Pacific Base Oil Market Reacts Positively After Lunar New Year Break

The Asia Pacific base oil market is reacting positively after the Lunar New Year break. Strong demand is seen across the region especially from the North East Asia market. At the moment, supply of Group I base oils are short and the supply/demand gap is expected to widen further. To add up to the supply tightness, some regional refineries, including Korean’s S-Oil Onsan’s refinery, are scheduled for maintenance in the next three months.
