Motor Oil (Hellas) Acquires Shell Lube Blending Plant; Petros Petropoulos Acquires Shell Greece Lube Business

Last Thursday Shell agreed to sell its Downstream businesses in Greece to Motor Oil (Hellas) Corinth Refineries S.A. Under a separate agreement also announced last Thursday, Petros Petropoulos AEBE - a supplier and distributor of automotive related products in Greece – will become the macro distributor of Shell-branded lubricants throughout Greece.

Shell Consolidates Heavy Duty Engine Oils Under Shell Rotella Ladder of Protection Portfolio

Shell Lubricants has unveiled its revamped Shell Rotella® product portfolio, which is part of a bold initiative in brand positioning and marketing strategy. This portfolio features a new synthetic blend engine oil, Shell Rotella® T5 and a new formula for its full synthetic engine oil, Shell Rotella® T6. All Shell Rimula, Pennzoil Long Life and Quaker State HDX products have been renamed and will be enfolded into the portfolio of Shell Rotella® Energized Protection™ oils.

Balmer Lawrie and Imani Wicaksana to Build 6,000 tpa Oil & Grease Plant in Indonesia

India's Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd last Thursday said it would set up a lube and grease manufacturing plant in Indonesia in a 50-50 joint venture with a local Indonesian company, Imani Wicaksana. The capacity of the plant will be 6,000 tonnes of lube oil and grease annually which would be marketed under the Balmer Lawrie brand. Balmer Lawrie already manufactures and markets the Balmerol brand of lubricants.

Name Brand Motor Oils Perceived as Higher Quality Than Private Label; Gasoline Brand Loyalty a Matter of Age

In other consumer goods categories, most consumers perceive the quality of private label brands as being equal to name brands, but a recent report from The NPD Group, a leading market research company, finds this isn’t always the case with auto aftermarket products consumers. In another study by the NPD Group, they found that generational differences have contributed to a steady decline in consumer brand loyalty when purchasing gasoline.

Massive Fire Breaks Out at Ajman Lubricant Warehouse

A massive fire last Saturday gutted a lubricant warehouse and then spread to an adjacent metal company in Ajman, UAE, leaving the two businesses in ashes. According to a report appearing in the Khaleej Times, the fire started in the Henkell International Lubricant Industry shortly after noon and spread to the neighboring Atlass Metal factory.

Chevron Introduces Delo 710 LE (Low Emissions) SAE 20W-40, First Marine Lube Designed with Tier-Four Engine Compliance in Mind

Chevron has introduced the newest member of its Delo product family, Delo® 710 LE (Low Emissions) SAE 20W-40 – the first marine lubricant designed with tier-four engine compliance in mind. Chevron Delo 710 LE is a premium diesel engine oil for use in EMD and GE engines. The lubricant is specifically formulated for use with Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels and new low emission engines.

Eastern Hemisphere Lube Base Oil Price Report

Crude oil prices traded in the US$65-73 per barrel range last week, with light sweet crude oil closing just over US$66 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange last Friday. Globally lube base oil prices remain on firm footing, increasing ever so slightly by an average of US$15 per MT, in a range of US$-5 to US$25 per MT.
