Loloma Foundation Supporters Open Their Hearts
$650 donated in flood relief effort by Bob Sykes
Vinaka friends. In January our team found itself in the midst of the worst flooding in Fiji’s recent history. In a special edition of this newsletter, Flood Relief Newsletter, we asked supporters to donate to help with extraordinary costs of a rural population dealing with this crisis. The generosity was heartwarming. Within a week, we received $650 for emergency relief from various supporters. We also received support in the form of clothing donations from the Indian-Fijian community in the Los Angeles area. This was spearheaded by David Maharaj of Destination South Pacific Travel in Hawthorne, CA.
All of the money donated was sent to Fiji for emergency supplies. The following is an excerpt of an e-mail from our partners at Navutu Star Resort on the Yasawa Islands describing the donation:
Bula Loloma Friends,
Yesterday 24th of March we have distributed the food , 330 kg rice and 300 kg of dhal. It has been a great success and a very nice surprise for the village, completely unexpected and to some families a much needed help.
Lots of families are struggling because of the low occupancy around Fiji and many had to go back to the village.
