GM Switches to Flat Fee on Dexos
General Motors has switched the licensing fee on its Dexos global engine oil specification from a royalty on every gallon of Dexos sold to a flat annual fee based on an oil company’s market share, a GM official confirmed to Lube Report.

Rerefining Gets Another U.S. Player
Heritage-Crystal Clean on Monday outlined plans for a new rerefinery in Indiana that would begin production in 2012 of about 2,000 barrels per day of API Group II base oil. The project has an estimated capital cost of $40 million.

U.S. Base Oil Price Report
The U.S. base oils market was fairly quiet during the past week, as most consumers continued to absorb the impact of posted price hikes initiated by paraffinic producers in March. Otherwise, steady circumstances characterize the market heading into April.

Europe-MidEast-Africa Base Oil Price Report
There are sporadic price hikes across the EMEA region this week, and real limits on availability of almost all API Group I solvent neutrals, particularly heavier grades such as SN 500 and SN 600. Buyers are currently looking at early May barrels, since there are few suppliers with any material available for the next few weeks.
