Truckers Seek Delay in Emissions Rule
The American Trucking Association has asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to delay a mandate requiring new diesel engines to pollute less beginning in October. The group contends that equipment needed to meet the standards would cost much more than EPA estimated, and that engines outfitted with them would be so unreliable as to threaten the nation’s economy. The engines' reliability will be especially threatened, ATA said, if mechanics fail to use the new CI-4 heavy duty engine oils.

U.S. Oil Fined For Uncleaned Mess
U.S. Oil Co. recently agreed to pay a $100,000 fine to settle a 10-year-old case brought by state regulators over an oil spill at its Kimberly, Wis., lubricant plant. State and U.S. Oil officials agreed the company waited too long to clean up the site.

Windward Reaches Westward
Windward Petroleum Inc. is continuing its rapid growth, announcing last week that it has purchased lubricant distributorships based in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Lawrenceburg, Tenn. Just four years old, the Charlotte, N.C., company has already made 11 acquisitions and claims to be one of the largest lube distributors in the country.

Base Oil Price Report
ExxonMobil raised its base oil posted prices Monday, ending a month of no price movements and leading other suppliers to make their own markups. ExxonMobil, Sunoco and Valero are adding 4 cents per gallon to all postings except bright stocks, which are unchanged. Conoco also increased prices, while the market awaited moves by ChevronTexaco, Citgo and Motiva.
