GF-4 Motor Oil Due in One Year
A recently released working paper says that GF-4, the next passenger car motor oil upgrade, should require oils to go easier on emission system catalysts, allow better gas mileage and provide better engine protection. The auto, oil and additive industries have just one year to approve the specification.

Fuchs Sales Defy Industry Slump
Fuchs Petrolub AG reported 4.2 percent sales growth in 2001, despite what it described as a downturn in the global lubricants market, especially in North America and Western Europe. The company predicted that its 2002 sales will increase nearly 13 percent, to Euro 1.06 billion (U.S. $931 million).

Base Oil Price Report
As crude oil prices continued climbing back toward last year’s peak, the U.S. base oil market appeared poised for price increases that some called inevitable. Crude prices have risen nearly 33 percent since U.S. base oil suppliers lowered prices in mid-February.
