SPECIAL CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE E-ALERT

Wildfires are once again ravaging areas of Southern California and impacting many California Hotel & Lodging Association and California Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns members.  The status of these fires is in continuous flux and it appears that the situation may get worse before the winds and the dry conditions abate and allow fire protection and containment efforts to succeed.

  • First and foremost, we are concerned about our members whose properties are directly threatened by the fires, and CH&LA stands ready to help them in every way possible.  If there is anything that CH&LA can do to assist you, please contact us at 800-678-2462 or info@calodging.com.
  • Our sincere appreciation goes out the hoteliers and innkeepers who are going out of their way to help the people impacted by the fires, including evacuated residents, people who have lost their homes, fire fighting personnel, and volunteer and emergency workers.  Providing free or discounted lodging, as well as contributing food and other supplies to help the over 300,000 people displaced by the fires are just some of the efforts reported to CH&LA and CABBI.
  • CH&LA would be remiss, however, if we neglected to caution our members not to do anything that might make it appear that they are taking advantage of the situation.  There is a state law which prohibits businesses from “gouging” (increased rates by more than 10%) in connection with natural disasters. [Penal Code Section 396(d)]
  • The California Hotel & Lodging Association is urging everyone to contribute whatever they can financially to help in this effort.  Click here to contribute to the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties.
