OHCQ Releases Two Memos Affecting Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Communities
Issues Involve Voter Registration and Domestic Partnership Rights

With the upcoming November elections closing in fast, OHCQ has re-released a memo regarding voter registration and absentee voting in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. House Bill 1368 of the 2006 Session requires local boards of elections to contact each nursing home and assisted living community and offer voter registration and absentee voting to the residents.

The Beacon Institute is proud to announce it's first ever training series for assisted living managers, with classes starting September 16th. This program series is intended to respond to new Maryland regulations that require assisted living managers to complete 80 hours of training and successful completion of a test. These regulations will be enforced as of August of 2009.

DHMH Releases Medicaid Transmittal On Tamper – Resistance Prescriptions

On August 20th, DHMH released a Medicaid transmittal affecting nursing home providers regarding tamper-resistance prescriptions. The transmittal reminds providers of the October 1, 2008 effective date for using tamper-resistance prescriptions and communicates recent clarifications from CMS about prescribers’ computer generated printed prescriptions.
