Who’s Hot in 2009?
The future of Hollywood is coming to the big screen – are you ready?

The talent pool of young Hollywood stars is deeper and more competitive than ever. Many of today's stars are primed to be even bigger tomorrow, but who among them has staying power? There are actors who are the definition of the phrase “here today, gone tomorrow,” or who have become targets for the tabloids. There are also some who can earn a permanent spot in the big leagues.

Here are five stars to keep an eye on in 2009 and beyond. Most of these actors aren’t new to show business. You may not know who they are now, but you certainly will soon.

Michael Cera: This 20 year old got his first big break on television (Arrested Development), but Cera made his mark on the big screen with the hilariously raunchy Superbad followed by the Oscar-nominated Juno. He’ll follow up fall’s Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist with starring roles in 2009’s Year One, Youth in Revolt and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in which his character, Scott, must defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil ex-boyfriends to win her heart. Hey, if he doesn’t win her heart, he already has ours.

Ellen Page: Along with co-star Cera, Ellen Page made her mark in Juno playing a pregnant teen, and even scored an Oscar nod. Don’t worry about typecasting this 21 year old. She will star in the thriller Peacock, play a roller derby skater in Drew Barrymore’s Whip It! and take the title role in the new adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.

Emma Stone: Like Page, Stone has worked with Cera in Superbad, but we swear this isn’t turning into six degrees of Michael Cera! This 19-year-old actress has starred in other comedies, The Rocker and The House Bunny. Playing to her strengths, Stone will star alongside Matthew McConaughey in the romantic comedy The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and the coming-of-middle-age comedy Paper Man with Ryan Reynolds. Not only is she funny, but she also gets to star alongside some of Hollywood’s hottest actors.

Robert Pattinson: This Londoner was Hufflepuff Quidditch stud Cedric Diggory in two Harry Potter flicks, Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. Up next for the 22 year old is playing the dreamy vampire Edward Cullen in the page-to-screen phenom Twilight. We see him as the new leading man who can play any role, and we’re willing to bet he could be the next Johnny Depp, working on Tim Burton-esque films playing wild characters. If the acting thing doesn’t work out for him, Pattinson always has music – he plays both the guitar and piano, and his music will also be heard in the movie Twilight.

Gemma Arterton: Another new Brit on the block, Gemma played Bond’s girl (well, one of them) in Quantum of Solace and had a role in Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla. You might catch this 22 year old in the English comedy The Boat that Rocked alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Emma Thompson. You will definitely see her in the epic action flick Prince of Persia with Jake Gyllenhaal.
