Examination of How Health Reform Will Impact Student Health Insurance Plans Continues
Many questions remain regarding President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul, and Lewer’s client schools are wondering how the first provisions, which went into effect on September 23, 2010, impact their student health insurance programs. “At this point, the legislation does not impact our LewerMark schools,” reports Jeff Crawford. “There is a lot of discussion about the legislation but, so far, the law only affects employer plans."

This summer, LewerMark account managers Monica Olson and Andrew Fuller launched The Lewer Agency’s page on Facebook, a social network site that has over 500 million active members. The site was designed to provide useful information regarding health insurance benefits to student insurance administrators at schools, as well as their students.

New Account Manager Joins LewerMark Team
The Lewer Agency is pleased to announce that new account manager Tracy McClure has joined the LewerMark team, effective July 12, 2010. Tracy, a Chinese naturalized U.S. citizen, who has studied abroad in France, brings unique qualities to Lewer’s Student Insurance group. She is fluent in Chinese and English and is conversant in French and Japanese.

LewerMark Sees Spike in Emergency Room Visits for Non-Urgent Care
The number of international students who have visited an Emergency Room (ER) for non-urgent health care has more than doubled in the last six months, according to the July, 2010 LewerMark Emergency Room Admissions Report, which summarized trends over a six month period. Conditions for which students sought treatment included acne and upper respiratory infections. One claim for the treatment of nausea resulted in a $1,359 bill.
