In a recent press release, The Lewer Agency announced the continuation of the LewerMark “Make your Mark Scholarship” contest for the 2008/2009 school year, resulting in the fourth consecutive year The Lewer Agency has sponsored the program. The program benefits international students sponsored by a school enrolled in one or more of the LewerMark student insurance programs. Both inbound and study abroad students are invited to apply for one of three scholarships by submitting a 500-word essay that answers the question: “How will an international education help me make a difference in the world?

New ESTA Requirements Announced

The Lewer Agency’s emergency services provider, Assist America, has issued an alert announcing new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Electronic System Travel Authorization (ESTA) requirements. Effective January 12, 2009, all travelers from the 34 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries will be required to provide biographical information online through the ESTA prior to entering the United States.

Patti Dennell Wins Award: Lewer recognized the accomplishments of several VIP team members at its annual employee meeting and awards presentation in Kansas City, December 22. Individuals honored included LewerMark claims manager, Patti Dennell, who was named 2008 "Manager of the Year."

Regional NAFSA Conference Highlights: The regional NAFSA conferences were an "exceptional success," reported LewerMark director, Jeff Crawford. "There was much interest in the pharmacy clinic feature of the LewerMark plan and our dental program. And what can you say about having to travel to Hawaii on business? I enjoyed meeting a number of representatives from schools in California at the conference. The ELS Language Centers, which has over 30 locations across the country, was a main sponsor of the Hawaii conference."
