LewerMark Client, DeDe Long, ‘Keeps Pushing’ for the Future of International Education
On Monday, July 28, 2008, the vote to move forward on “The Advancing America’s Priorities Act” failed in the Senate after a 52 – 40 vote (60 votes were needed to move to debate on the bill). The Advancing America’s Priorities Act (S.3297) was an omnibus authorization bill that contained a group of bipartisan pieces of legislation with broad support that were otherwise blocked in the Senate. The bill included provisions in a variety of areas, including the Simon Study Abroad Foundation Act. Four More Members Join LewerMark Team
It wasn't that long ago when the LewerMark team in the home office consisted of just a few, select individuals. In recent years, the team continues to expand at a steady pace, now employing more individuals than any other department in the company. The Lewer Agency recently expanded its customer service team, again, after hiring three more customer service representatives and a new account manager. As the company's student insurance programs continue to be utilized on a growing number of campuses across the country, the expansion of the LewerMark customer support team in the home office ensures the continuation of the prompt and personalized service The Lewer Agency's clients have come to expect and value from the LewerMark team.

Treatment of Tuberculosis Covered for LewerMark Clients
In a July 2008 report prepared by the American College Health Association Tuberculosis Guidelines Task Force, the ACHA advised that students should be screened for risk factors for TB through a screening questionnaire. The United States is primarily a low-incidence country, so most U.S. born incoming students will not have risk factors for TB and will not need TB testing. However, according to the ACHA, international students arriving from countries with an increased incidence of TB should be tested because this subpopulation has been identified epidemiologically as having a higher incidence of Latent TB Infection (LTBI) and is subsequently at increased risk for developing active TB disease.

International Student Falls Prey to Dishonest Doctor
Lewer Alerts Client Schools of Possible Trend
Bill Clinton was once quoted as saying, “There will always be bad guys out there in the world who will try to take advantage of people’s vulnerabilities.” Was he referring to dishonest doctors and unsuspecting international students when he made that comment? According to the Washington State Department of Health Medical Quality Assurance Commission, this is a story of "unprofessional conduct" that dates back to 1999 when a doctor in Washington state acquired his license.
