Todd Cantin, CMR: Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Class of 2003
Persistence and tenacity,
both excellent qualities for a pharmaceutical industry employee, paid off for
Todd Cantin as he pursued his goal of becoming a pharmaceutical sales
representative. When a position became available with Sandoz, Todd used those skills
to gain an unscheduled and unsolicited introduction, an interview and a job.
Whenever he speaks with a representative who thinks they can’t go forward with
a particular client, Todd tells them his story and shares with them what a
motivated, persistent individual can accomplish.
Now a District Manager II
for Novartis, Todd believes that representatives differentiate themselves with
their customers by adding value on each and every call. One important way is to become CMR Certified. Todd also says, “CMR means that I
have differentiated myself from others in my field by setting and accomplishing
a goal to improve my representatives. I train them to interact with their
customers in a way that provides more value to the clinicians’ practices in
exchange for the time that they spend with my representatives.”
Todd has proven his methods
pay off – he won the Novartis District Manager Impact Award in the spring of 2003 and again in the summer of 2006. Personal
and professional development, such as his certification course work through CMR
Institute, has enabled him to better understand the perspectives of his
customers based on the challenges they face each day. Todd believes that some representatives
have a very narrow view of their customers’ needs and concentrate solely on
their own agenda. His CMR coursework helped him see the full picture.
Todd has been with Novartis
for ten years. He has a BS in Nutritional Science and a BS in Chemistry from
the University of Arizona (1991). He also earned his MBA from Arizona State
University in 2001.
Todd and his family reside
in Arizona. He enjoys hiking the Arizona trails, physical fitness, reading, and spending time with his wife, Candi, and his children, Cori and Chad.
