The Power of Video
Like Rod Stewart sings, “Every picture tells a story, don’t it?” It’s even more true with moving pictures --- video. While we see more headlines citing the rise of the Internet as a go-to source for getting information, research shows, however, that television remains the number one way for Americans to get their news and information. Internet entrepreneurs have taken note of the power of video, and have spawned a new universe of online video channels like YouTube and Google Video, letting viewers pick what to watch, when they want, and share their favorites with friends.
This fall you may have seen a local TV news report on the hazards of sleeping pills, and a safer, natural alternative called Rescue Sleep. You may also have seen your local TV news station report on pet food ingredients, highlighting the benefits from feeding your cat or dog a natural recipe from Wellness. Miss the evening news? Maybe a friend emailed the stories to you from YouTube or a niche website you enjoy? Warner Communications produced both of these videos as key communications tactics to launch the newest product from Nelsons – Rescue Sleep, and to serve as the cornerstone of a campaign for Wellness, to educate consumers on how to select healthy food for their pets.
Together these stories reached more than 1 million pairs of eyeballs across the country. Just a couple of weeks into the program, each story ran 18 times on more than a dozen stations, and were posted – and shared – at Google Video, YouTube and for you cat lovers, CatForum.com among other online pet lover chat boards.
