J.D. Power is a data and analytics company, established in 1968, that provides benchmarks for products to let companies know how they’re doing and to relay information about the products to potential consumers. With each new automotive model year, J.D. Power evaluates vehicles across multiple brands and ranks them in several categories.
For the 2017 model year, the Hyundai Elantra was ranked as the best in its segment for Overall Owner Experience. This ranking pulls and measures information regarding the vehicle’s availability of driver-assist technologies and consumer usage of these technologies. Specifically, the 2017 Elantra was ranked highest in entertainment, connectivity and smartphone mirroring.
“How we interact with vehicle technology continues to be a key consideration when buying a car across all vehicle categories,” explained Manish Mehrota, Hyundai’s digital business planning and connected operations director. “Our focus on creating a better owner and driver experience is evident in the Elantra.”
The 2017 Elantra uses modern technology to improve the safety of the vehicle. Available on the 2017 model, drivers can utilize a Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist. These driver-assist technologies alert drivers of potential dangers, working to help prevent an accident before it happens. The Elantra also offers a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines to improve maneuverability.
In terms of connectivity, the Elantra’s infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility to not only increase connectivity, but to allow drivers to stay connected while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. While not all of these features are standard on the base trim, the 2017 Elantra offers six trims for drivers to choose the level of connectivity they need or want.
As technology improves over the years, safety improves with it. While these technological advancements allow automotive companies like Hyundai to include fun tech features like infotainment and surround sound audio, they also provide opportunities to improve on safety and work towards autonomous driving.
