Winter Check List & Toyota / Lexus Consumer Safety Advisory
by Joseph St. Marie

 INSIDE 3501
YOUR SAFETY IS IMPORTANT—CHECK IT OUT –IT WILL BE WORTH YOUR TIME
Winter will soon be upon us and winter driving comes with it. While safety is an important consideration all throughout the year, there are certainly things you can do that will better prepare you and your family. As with any change in season, you should go to your maintenance log to make sure you are up to date. Some winter specific maintenance items you should consider---check your anti-freeze, inspect your tires, replace your windshield wiper blades and check your windshield washer fluid. And be sure your regular maintenance and inspections are complete---battery posts are clean, inspect your brakes, inspect your spark plug wires and check your engine oil. Many of our guests use our Express Service to make sure their maintenance is current. If you have been putting this off, now would be a good time to visit our Express Service facility on High Crossing Boulevard, where we will perform any of these services on your time, no appointment is necessary.
Make sure you also check out our article on important winter driving tips. For most, the refresher is worth it.
Recently you may have heard or read about the Toyota consumer safety advisory relating to the potential floor mat interference with the accelerator pedal.Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. takes public safety very seriously. It believes its vehicles to be among the safest on the road today.
Recent events have prompted Toyota to take a closer look at the potential for an accelerator pedal to get stuck in the full open position due to an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat. A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death.

Toyota considers this a critical matter and will soon launch a safety campaign on specific Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Throughout the process of developing the details of the action plan, it will advise the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Today, we are releasing the attached Toyota Consumer Safety Advisory to our customers. Until Toyota develops a campaign remedy, we are asking owners of specific Toyota and Lexus models to take out any removable driver’s floor mat and NOT replace it with any other floor mat. The following models are affected:
2007 – 2010 Camry
2005 – 2010 Avalon
2004 – 2009 Prius
2005 – 2010 Tacoma
2007 – 2010 Tundra
In the event owners choose not to remove their floor mat, Toyota strongly recommends that they ensure that the correct floor mat is being used, that it is properly installed and secured, that it is not flipped over with bottom-side up, and that one floor mat is not stacked over another. Information on proper floor mat installation can be found on this link http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-consumer-safety-advisory-102572.aspx

Enjoy the winter in Wisconsin and be safe. And thank you for your business.
