Survey: Many People Hold Misperceptions about Cancer Risks and Treatment
http://www.imaginis.com/breasthealth/news/news10.3...

In a large survey of people from 29 countries, researchers found that many misunderstand cancer risks and the chances of successful treatment. The survey revealed some surprising findings, including that many tend not to regard alcohol as a cancer risk factor and instead tend to overplay the risks associated with stress and pollution. In addition, people from lower income countries tend to believe that nothing can be done to treat cancer and that doctors alone should make treatment decisions. The researchers believe that the survey highlights key areas of focus for cancer education campaigns.

Bone pain and fractures can be debilitating. A procedure called balloon kyphoplasty, is a minimally invasive technique to relieve spinal pain. Research has shown that balloon kyphoplasty can provide immediate pain relief. It can also restore vertebral body height, increase the strength of the vertebral body, and restore stiffness. The procedure, which is cleared for marketing in the United States, can be performed under local or general anesthesia and involves using x-ray guidance to help the surgeon place a hollow needle into the collapsed vertebra.

Risk Factors and Symptoms of Cervical Cancer

Most, but not all, women who develop cervical cancer tend to have one or more identifiable factors that increase their risk for the disease. Some risk factors can be changed, such as smoking and diet, while others cannot be changed, such as age and race. Knowing the risk factors and symptoms of cervical cancer can help women alert their physicians at an early stage, when chances of successful treatment survival are generally the highest.

Fund the Fight: Help Stamp Out Breast Cancer
http://www.imaginis.com/breasthealth/stamp.asp

The "Fund the Fight, Find a Cure" semi-postal stamp was first released in July 1998 to help fund breast cancer research. The stamp’s introduction was a direct result of the efforts of Dr. Ernie Bodai, MD, a Breast Health Specialist who has treated more than 2000 women with breast cancer over the last 15 years. Dr. Bodai travels the United States addressing groups of women about breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Research stamp sells for $0.55 instead of the normal $0.42 for a first class stamp. The additional $0.13 goes to the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department to help fund breast cancer research.
