Women who consume a high amount of vegetables may increase their chances of surviving ovarian cancer, according to the results of a recently published study. In the study, women were asked about their intake of several foods prior to a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Those who consumed many vegetables were more likely to survive ovarian cancer than those who consumed few vegetables or a large amount of diary products. Though further research is needed to confirm these findings, a diet high in vegetables has been shown to be important in helping to prevent a number of health problems, including heart disease.

In an analysis of clinical trials that investigated the effects of vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E, beta-carotene, folic acid, antioxidant combinations, and multivitamins, the task force said that there is no solid evidence to recommend using these supplements to prevent heart disease or cancer.

Over one million women have used a soft pad to help reduce discomfort during mammography, according to BioLucent, the maker of the MammoPad breast cushion. The MammoPad is a single-use, adhesive-backed cushioned pad that can be applied to both the mammographic plate and the breast compression paddle before a mammogram. Since many women cite discomfort as a reason for avoiding mammograms, a breast cushion could encourage more women to receive screening exams.
