Let Shalom Task Force Answer The Call
by Nechama Wolfson

Whether you are just starting up or are looking to expand your outreach to victims of domestic abuse in your community, Shalom Task Force can help you become more effective. For more than ten years, volunteer advocates at the Shalom Task Force Hotline have answered calls and provided an array of services to Jewish women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Their widely acclaimed hotline, started in New York City in 1993, has expanded its reach and now has affiliates in five states around the country. We invite you to join this network of affiliates, and to let Shalom Task Force put its hotline to work for you.

ABOUT THE STF HOTLINE

Victims of domestic abuse or their children, relatives, and friends can call the hotline and talk to volunteer advocates in multiple languages, including English, Hebrew Yiddish and Russian. STF hotline advocates are specially trained to respond to women and children in crisis, and they can also answer questions from professionals who call the hotline. Calls to STF’s hotline are always anonymous, and are toll-free.

While the STF hotline provides victims with a sympathetic ear, it also does much more. STF has forged crucial alliances with social service professionals, community agencies and religious leaders across the United States to insure that Jewish victims of domestic violence can access local resources that are sensitive to their unique cultural needs. Because of these alliances, the hotline volunteers have been able to work successfully with a broad range of Jewish ethnic groups in the New York Metropolitan area and beyond. As an added benefit, Shalom Task Force can help you train professionals and leaders in your area to identify and respond to victims of abuse.

Please take us up on our invitation to affiliate with Shalom Task Force. You’ll soon find that having a fully operational domestic abuse hotline can make all the difference for your community.
