The UJA-Federation Task Force on Family Violence* and ELEM Youth in Distress are inviting synagogues across the East End of Long Island to join in a weekend of activities to raise public awareness about family violence, August 6-8.
This educational program will help dispel the myth that family violence does not exist in the Jewish community, and will help to reduce the stigma and isolation victims experience. This event will feature special programs at synagogues and community venues from Center Moriches to East Hampton and Sag Harbor, and will provide life-saving information on resources for people affected by family violence.
Rebecca Rozen, owner of Galerie Rimonim, will host an exhibit of The Clothesline Project, a collection of t-shirts created by survivors as part of their therapeutic healing process. Rebeca Rozen was introduced to The Clothesline Project at last July’s JWI conference in Baltimore.
These t-shirts illustrate the devastation of family violence and the survivors’ painful journeys to recovery. Visitors are invited to a wine and cheese reception which will be held at the gallery on Saturday evening, August 7. The local domestic violence agency, The Retreat, is also involved in this effort.
