Jews from Arab Lands
When the issue of Middle East refugees is mentioned, what comes to mind? For most people, it is not the 856,000 Sephardi Jews who lived in Arab lands at the founding of Israel in 194 8 – or the less than 1% that remain in those lands today.
The JCRC, in partnership with JIMENA and Justice for Jews from Arab Lands (JfJ), is trying to change that. This Summer JCRC hosted an educational and pre-advocacy forum with both groups as they visited DC to testify before Congress.

Deterring A Nuclear Iran
JCRC To Pursue State Level Divestment
The Iranian regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has manifested increasingly threatening behavior and rhetoric toward the United States, other Western powers, Israel and the Jewish people. Coupled with its belligerent declarations are Iran’s sponsorship of terrorist networks – Hezbollah and Hamas – and its nuclear ambitions. In the face of this clear and increasing threat, the JCRC joins with a growing number of policy organizations in calling for our government and international entities to take clear diplomatic and economic actions to deter this radical state from its nuclear pursuits. The attached JCRC policy on Iran Divestment was approved on April 17, 2007 and will be a major part of our federal and state advocacy efforts.

Celebrating with Delegate Callahan
in recognition of his support for non-profits & Jewish agencies
 |
As Chairman of the Virginia House Appropriations Committee for two decades, Delegate Callahan has championed grants to non-profits that provide critical services throughout the Commonwealth. In recent years this included nearly $600,000 in funding for Northern Virginia’s Jewish agencies that serve the disabled, the elderly, our youth and other vulnerable populations – Jew and non-Jew alike. |
