A Federal judge ruled that this Ten Commandments monument must be removed from an Alabama judicial building. Representatives from the Orthodox Union and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism take opposing sides on the issue of displaying the Ten Commandments in public spaces.

JCRC Assistant Director Julie Weingrad shares her observations after spending two weeks in Jerusalem with the Young Jewish Leaders Diplomatic Seminar. The Seminar is hosted by Israel's Foreign Ministry and brings together young Jewish leaders from all over the world.

Huge Success for JCRC and local advocates

Over 50 local advocates joined the JCRC for Montgomery County Jewish Advocacy Day on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. The JCRC met with Montgomery County Council members to discuss key issues facing the Jewish and non-Jewish communities of Greater Washington.

2005 General Assembly Session in Review

The 2005 General Assembly session was a successful one for Maryland’s Jewish community. We achieved protection against insurance discrimination for travelers to Israel and other foreign countries. We saw the passage of a measure to enhance Holocaust and genocide education in Maryland. Our community also supported a major increase in school construction funding, and advocated for grants to help our agencies serve more people in need in our community and throughout the state.

Muslims and Jews build together

The JCRC of Greater Washington and the Montgomery County Muslim Council co-sponsored a Sukkot in April house on Sunday, April 17. Together a team of 25-30 people came together to help clean, repair, and paint the outside of a house belonging to a low-income disabled couple in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
