Individuals Active on Campaigns as JCRC Plans Candidate Forums

On the ballots this year are all state elected officials as well as many County Supervisors and School Board Members (click here for statewide voter information).  Fairfax voters will also address school and transportation bond issues.  Among these races are many open or hotly contested seats.  The following incumbents have vacated their seats and competition will be fierce to replace them: Delegate Vince Callahan (McLean), Senator John Chichester (Stafford), Supervisor Hilda Barg (Prince William), Senator Russ Potts (Loudoun-Fauquier), Supervisor Elaine McConnell (Fairfax-Springfield).

The JCRC encourages our community’s activism and engagement in the democratic process.   While synagogues and nonprofits cannot endorse candidates or engage in political fundraising, nonprofits ARE permitted to host events to educate the public on policy issues.  Synagogues and agencies may host candidates so long as equal opportunities to appear are provided for each candidate, political fundraising does not occur, and the discussion is presented in a nonpartisan manner.  (More details are available at the IRS website or by contacting our offices directly.)
