Opportunities for Tikkun Olam in your community

Yachad, the Jewish Housing and Community Development Corporation of Greater Washington
ongoing
Yachad is seeking Washington-area builders, contractors, skilled tradespeople and real estate professionals to assist Yachad and its community development partners with two programs: Hard Hats and Helping Hands Home Repair (5-H) and Faith-to-Faith Community Development: For the 5-H program, Yachad seeks builders, contractors and skilled tradespeople to provide repair services to lower-income homeowners. A broad range of projects is available, from repairing the plumbing in a single bathroom to repairing the drywall in and painting a few rooms, or an entire house. Often, money is available to purchase all or a part of the supplies needed. The Faith-to-Faith Community Development Program brings together minority churches and Jewish real estate professionals to work side by side developing plans and restoring properties. Yachad is currently in need of real estate professionals to advise new minority church partners that are embarking on projects to revitalize their neighborhoods.
Call Yachad today at 202-296-8563 or e-mail info@yachad-dc.org <

School Supplies for Low-Income Students

The Jewish Volunteer Connection

The Friendship Public Charter School Chamberlain Campus in Southeast D.C. is seeking backpacks and school supplies for their low-income students.  They serve students in levels K-5, and some of their less fortunate students starting school this Fall are in need of assistance.  We are asking for congregations or other community groups who can donate 50 backpacks with school supplies (a list of needed items will be provided).  Tax letters for materials purchased can be supplied. This is an example of Mitzvah Projects that the Jewish Volunteer Connection will be offering on a regular basis in the future.  If interested in this great opportunity to help others, please contact:
