2010 Ford Fusion Is the Most Fuel-Efficient Mid-Size Sedan in America
Fusion joins a formation of frugal Fords with impressive mileage numbers.

The four-cylinder-powered 2010 Ford Fusion is now the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in America with fuel economy of 34 mpg highway and 23 mpg city, besting the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Fusion now claims the best fuel economy numbers for both the midsize sedan and midsize hybrid sedan segments.

“Take your pick: Whether you want a gas-powered or hybrid midsized sedan, the new Fusion offers the best fuel economy in America,” said Barb Samardzich, Ford’s Vice President of Powertrain Engineering. “We promised to offer best-in-class or among the very best fuel economy with every new vehicle we introduce, and we are making good on that pledge with hybrids, new high-tech gasoline engines, new six-speed transmissions and other fuel efficient technologies.”

The fuel-economy leading Fusion S with the six-speed automatic transmission features an MSRP of $19,270. That makes it one of the most affordable midsize cars you can own! If you have your heart set on turning green, the base price of the all-new Ford Fusion Hybrid is $27,270.

Aside from mileage leadership, the most noticeable change to the 2010 Fusion is its freshened styling. Ford says its goal was to “visually communicate that this is a fun car to drive.” The front of the Fusion is wider and more aggressive, due mainly to sleek changes in the signature ford grille and flanking headlamps and foglamps. The grille in particular has been exaggerated and given a more contemporary appearance, while the projector headlamps now wrap around the Fusion’s corners. The fog lamps are housed below in a trapezoidal-shaped opening to help complete the more-muscular look. Editors at Motor Trend call the new Fusion the "best looking of the new Fords."

“If customers don’t get excited about the exterior, they’ll never come look at the interior and all the great features we have or even come into the showroom,” said Design Manager Solomon Song. “We made sure they can’t miss this vehicle from the outside when you compare it to other midsize sedans.”

The Fusion cabin received a makeover for 2010 as well. In order to create the most modern and unique interior style possible, Ford designers developed an individual technical look and feel for each Fusion model. This new unified theme starts with the instrument panel’s new stainless steel look with metal finishes on the control knobs, and carries through on the steering wheel, center console and doors. Newly redesigned seats feature expert craftsmanship and contrasting stitching for a more modern appeal, while seat bolsters are smooth with contrasting textured treatments. All this and the 2010 Fusion lost 125 pounds in the makeover!

A Duratec 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder engine allows the 2010 Fusion S to achieve 175 hp and 172 lb/ft of torque, an improvement over last year's model.

V6 models feature a new 3.0-liter engine (available on SE and SEL trim levels) capable of 240 hp and 228 lb/ft of torque (also improvements over last year). Integrated Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), Cam Torque Actuated (CTA) iVCT technology and an air induction system also improves fuel efficiency in the V6.

Joining the 2010 Fusion lineup, and award-winning Duratec 3.5-liter V6 engine gives the Sport model 263 hp and 249 lb/ft of torque using a six-speed transmission.

In case you can’t tell, we are very impressed with the 2010 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid. We think you will be duly impressed as well. Give us a call and we’ll set up a personal presentation and test drive.
