Vehicle Profile: 2018 Ford Fusion
Explore the impressive variety offered by the 2018 Ford Fusion

One of the breadwinners in every auto manufacturer’s lineup is its mid-size passenger car. For Ford this slot is held by the 2018 Fusion, which comes in many varieties across a full dozen trim levels, from the base Fusion S to the top-of-the-line Fusion Energi Platinum.

Variety in Power

The 2018 Ford Fusion comes with an impressive six different engine options. At the base is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which produces 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This is followed by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost®, which pushes those numbers to 181 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque.

Next in line comes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost®, which delivers a much-improved 231 horsepower on regular fuel or 240 horsepower on premium, and 270 lb-ft of torque. After that, with the most power in the Fusion lineup, is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6, which provides an impressive 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

The Fusion also offers two highly advanced hybrid systems. The first of these is a conventional hybrid, combining a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Atkinson-Cycle engine with electric motors for a total of 188 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque and incredible fuel efficiency. The second hybrid powertrain is the same gas engine in a plug-in hybrid configuration, which offers the same performance, but with the ability to travel up to an EPA-estimated 21 miles before burning a drop of gasoline.

Variety in features

As you might expect from a vehicle with such a wide spread of trim levels and powertrains, the 2018 Ford Fusion comes with an extensive variety of features depending on the model. At the base level this includes an entertainment system made up of an AM/FM stereo with a CD player, MP3 capability and four speakers; a pair of 12V powerpoints; Push Button Start; and a set of automatic halogen headlamps with headlamp courtesy delay.

However, when reaching the topmost Platinum trims, those features are supplemented or replaced by many more features, including heated and cooled front seats, premium leather seating trim, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, an audio system from Sony® with 12 speakers and HD Radio™ connectivity and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

When it comes to choosing a new vehicle, the variety of choices offered by the 2018 Ford Fusion lets drivers get exactly what they want in a mid-size sedan.
