BMW’s current and future vehicles were an integral part of the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, but there may have been no vehicle more impressive than the all-new 2019 BMW Z4 M40i. Making its official world premiere on the 18th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Course, the next-generation BMW Z4 roadster immediately asserts itself once more as the cream of its class.
The BMW Z4 M40i delivers on BMW Group Design Chief Adrian van Hooydonk’s promise last year that the BMW Concept Z4 would spawn a production version. While more details about the next-generation BMW Z4 will be forthcoming, it can be confirmed that the M850i xDrive Coupe’s mighty 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder will enable it to go from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds and that its perfect 50:50 weight distribution will make it exceptionally balanced and fun to drive.*
BMW’s presence also included the North American premiere of the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe.
“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is designed to stir things up, to polarize — it should move you emotionally,” said Domagoj Dukec, Vice President Design BMW M and BMW i. “With this car we want to reach people who are looking for something special and who want to stand out from the crowd. Here, BMW M is unmistakably taking luxury out of its comfort zone.”
The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe shows off, among other things, the new face of the BMW 8 Series with a reconfigured kidney grille bonded by a singular grille surround element and flanked by higher-placed headlights. Its sweeping proportions are perhaps best taken in from the side, providing the full scope of its long wheelbase and bonnet, short tail and flowing roofline.
The 2019 BMW Z4 M40i, BMW 6 Series Coupe and BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe solidify BMW’s position at the cusp of luxury and performance. These dynamic and powerful vehicles reinforce the engineering and design expertise that has put BMW at the forefront of innovation and will keep it there for years to come.
