Employee Spotlight: Michael Carino
Creative and tech-savvy, 26-year-old Michael Carino (Mike, for short) is our youngest sales and leasing consultant. Although he’s only been part of our sales department for a little over a year, as a former engineering student, Mike knows cars inside and out, and his product knowledge is impressive, to say the least. When asked what he enjoys about his new position, he had this to say: "Being in a service related position, I love meeting new people and making new friends. I also like talking to long-time customers and hearing all their stories about how they love their Hondas. But being a tech-junky, I think what I like the most is taking the latest and greatest advancements in the newest Hondas and making them accessible to all our customers. I love the way their faces light up when I explain something that they might not have taken the time to learn otherwise, and watching the smiles on their faces as they drive off in their new car, knowing how it's gonna benefit their lives in one way or another." His customers always appreciate his big smile and his “friendly, professional, and excellent service,” which Mike honed by photographing weddings and portraits while earning his art degree at UH Manoa.

Vehicle Comparison: The 2011 Honda Accord vs. the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu
The family sedan legend takes on a young gun.
As far as the editors at Car and Driver are concerned, the Honda Accord is the gold standard for family sedans. Since the magazine started a ‘10Best Cars’ list nearly 30 years ago, the Honda Accord has been selected a record 25 times – more than any other model. But in the extremely competitive family sedan market, there are a lot of worthy competitors. Take for instance the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. Both of these family sedans are solid choices, but which of these two machines takes the title when compared against the other?

When buying a new car, performance is always one of the top considerations. Island Honda Loves the Aloha Initiative!
Island Honda and our sister store, Island Auto Center, recently donated 50 prepaid cellular phones and phone cards to the Aloha Initiative, a program which is providing much-needed hope and help – through respite stays on Maui and Oahu - to Japanese victims of the March earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis.
The phones provide Japanese guests and their local host families with immediate communication access to each other, allowing for greater independence, mobility, security and peace of mind.
Our dealership family also collected new and gently used clothing for the Aloha Initiative’s clothing drive, and brought them to the Kahului Hongwanji drop-off location before the visitors’ arrival in early July. For more information on the Aloha Initiative, call 280-1299 or visit www.alohainitiative.com. Top photo: Anne Oishi with Keith Regan, co-founder of the Aloha Initiative. Bottom photo: Our collected items, with Jervin Nishimura, Dyllon Oishi-Mochida and Keisha Cabudol, who assisted with the drop-off.

Air conditioning systems are specifically designed to be largely maintenance free, but small issues can grow into big problems without regular checks. That’s why the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), recommends having your vehicle’s systems examined twice a year to make certain everything is in top working order.
