Employee Spotlight: Eli Pellazar, Inventory Go-to Guy!

What do boxing and jujitsu have in common with tracking, receiving and detailing new Hondas? Nothing, which may be exactly why Eli enjoys spending much of his after-work time at the gym sparring and working on his martial arts skills! Think of it as a good balance. A valued employee since 2003, Eli's typical day consists of monitoring and stocking in new Hondas from post-production to prep, and leading the vehicle wash and detail crew. With power in his polishing arm and an eye for detail when it comes to keeping new Hondas in pristine condition, Karate Kid's Mr. Miyagi and Daniel-san ("wax on, wax off" ) have nothing over this guy! When asked what he likes most about working at Island Honda, his answer was all about the people: "They're not my co-workers, they're my family!" We couldn't agree more!

Now on DriveLiveTV: The 2009 Honda Civic Coupe

Starting at $15,305, the Honda Civic coupe is certainly inexpensive. Inexpensive coupes often scream cheap - not the Civic, though. It's not new on the scene, but the styling of this two-door Honda is still space-capsule cool, and the car is refined and smooth - the class of its field.

"Do not resist events that move you out of your comfort zone, especially when your comfort zone was not all that comfortable."

Great Pupus: Bacon-Bundled BBQ Shrimp
(We tried them...Yum!) From "Hungry Girl: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories" by Lisa Lillien (Mahalo to the Honolulu Advertiser)

1/3 c canned tomato sauce
3 T ketchup
1 T brown sugar (not packed)
1 T cider vinegar
½ tsp garlic powder
Nonstick spray
8 slices extra lean turkey bacon,
halved crosswise
16 large (not jumbo) raw shrimp,
peeled, deveined, tails removed

Heat oven to 425 degrees. In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, ketchup, sugar, vinegar and garlic powder until mixed well. Set aside. Lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray. Take ½ slice bacon and coat it in the sauce. Wrap the sauce-covered bacon around a shrimp and place it, seam-side down, on the baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the bacon and shrimp. Give them a quick mist with the nonstick spray. Bake in the oven until the shrimp are cooked through and the bacon is crispy, 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool slightly before serving. Makes 4 servings.

Goodbye Clunkers, Hello New Hondas!

Here are just a few of the many clunkers Island Honda took in during the Cash for Clunkers program in July and August. Upon voucher funding confirmation by the NHTSA, they will be readied for proper disposal. Congratulations to all who were able to benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
