Vehicle Profile: 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe
Two more doors for the sleek 6 Series

The all-new 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe beautifully blends coupe passion with four-door pragmatism while delivering on the brand’s “Ultimate Driving Machine” promise.

A coupe steals your glance and ignites something in your heart that you just can’t let go. The BMW 6 Series Coupes plead guilty in this matter. Refined (and practical) sport/luxury sedans may win your mind, but deep down you know they will never ease the ache in your heart. For you, BMW turns that spark in your heart into a lasting relationship with the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, which adds two doors while remaining true to the sleek 6 Series profile that defines a true coupe. The first of three models, the 640i Gran Coupe is now available with a 315-hp engine and an MSRP of $76,000. Two V8-powered 650i Gran Coupe models with rear wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive will arrive shortly.

In the 2013 640i Gran Coupe, a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine doles out 330 lb/ft of torque starting at just 1,300 rpm, or essentially as soon as your foot presses the accelerator pedal. Edmunds Inside Line confirmed as much in its preview test drive: “The 3.0-liter straight-6 spins with creamy eagerness, its twin-scroll turbocharger delivering a fat torque spread that's unleashed the instant you sink the throttle.”

For those who crave even more power, a 650i Gran Coupe arrives this summer with a new version of the BMW 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8. In the 2013 650i Gran Coupe, this engine gains VALVETRONIC variable valve timing to boost output to 445 hp (up from 400 in other 2012 BMW models) and a massive 480 lb/ft of torque from 2,000-4,500 rpm. When paired with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, this potent V8 will rocket the 650i Gran Coupe from zero to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds.

All 6 Series Gran Coupe models come equipped exclusively with the eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission that provides, automatic “Sport” and “Manual” shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 6 Series suspension, crafted mainly from aluminum and aided by standard Dynamic Damper Control, delivers the hallmark BMW blend of agility and velvety ride quality.

Aware that they were dealing with matters of the heart, BMW designers knew not to disturb the 6 Series two-door theme when creating a four-door version. The 6 Series Gran Coupe adds just over four inches to its two-door sibling’s wheelbase and length, enough to provide a more spacious rear seat area yet retain a coupe-like silhouette. The long hood/short trunk lid proportions remain intact as well, and, of course, the 6 Series Gran Coupe still cuts through the air with the shark-like nose of the two-door model.

BMW, while adding room to the rear seat area, kept the look of the two-door’s four-seat interior. However, the Gran Coupe can accommodate five, and its standard split/folding rear seats expand cargo room.

The discerning customer will find a particularly high level of standard amenities and infotainment technology in the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe, along with some alluring optional finishes from the BMW Individual portfolio.

The 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe indulges the driver and passengers with an abundance of true luxury, such as standard 10-way power-adjustable front seats with four-way lumbar support (20-way power Multi-contour front seats on the 650i models) , and a memory system for the driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirror settings. Refined Dakota leather upholstery cover the seat surfaces, all armrests and headrests, door trim and gearshift boot and on 650i models Nappa leather is standard. The available Bang & Olufsen premium audio system means never having to leave home-theater sound at home.

Come see and drive the four-door coupe only BMW could make – the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe.
