The slogan for the 2017 Mazda CX-5 is “an SUV all customers will enjoy.” With a new design, enjoyable driving dynamics, multiple powertrain options and the latest in safety and technology features, it’s sure to hit the mark.
Since its launch in 2012, the Mazda CX-5 quickly became a top seller, accounting for nearly 25 percent of all annual sales with over 1.4 million units sold. So when engineers were tasked with revamping the CX-5, they had a tough act to follow. The end result? Arguably the best model yet.
The design team for the CX-5 aimed for “refined toughness,” and it accomplished its goal with a new bold and muscular design. The fine attention to detail makes it seem as if even the smallest specifics were considered. A low center of gravity, with a front and rear track that’s been widened by 10 mm, provides a more powerful stance. The grille adds a new three-dimensional pattern, and the headlamps are lower and thinner. A new color—Soul Red Crystal—shows off the energy of the CX-5.
The interior focuses on form, texture and ambience. All elements help accomplish a specific goal to make drivers feel one with the CX-5 and make the most of every drive. Unique trims and fabrics, including your choice of three interior packages, show off attitude and individuality. Every switch is laid out naturally, so you don’t need to extend yourself to reach them.
Technology plays an important role in today’s vehicle, and the CX-5 certainly does not disappoint. The new model features a Human Machine Interface with a seven-inch display, the MAZDA CONNECT™ system and a new 10-speaker Bose premium sound system with AudioPilot2™ ambient noise compensation.
The CX-5 continues to offer the driving excitement that has become a Mazda staple. The 2017 model boasts three available SKYACTIV engines, including a new SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine—a North American first. Transmission choices include the SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic or SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual. The predictive i-ACTIV AWD system is also available, providing maximum traction in all driving conditions. In addition, the CX-5 features G-Vectoring Control and SKYACTIV-CHASSIS enhancements. The SKYACTIV-BODY of the CX-5 has nearly 16 percent more torsional rigidity than the outgoing model, and NVH levels have been improved too.
The CX-5 goes beyond basic safety. Through the Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy, drivers are afforded additional confidence. The i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies aim to avoid an accident from occurring in the first place. The SKYACTIV-BODY helps disperse energy in the event of a collision while keeping occupants safe. More advanced safety features are available including the most recent version of Mazda Radar Cruise Control and a Traffic Sign Recognition that displays a sign’s message on the Active Driving Display.
“The all-new CX-5—born of a desire to provide every driver and their passengers with driving pleasure and a deeper relationship with the car—will delight customers and enrich their lives. I sincerely hope that people will feel Mazda’s ongoing spirit of challenge and evolution through this car,” says Masaya Kodama, Project Manager of the CX-5.
