Tablet PCs with Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology have been announced by Acer and Motion Computing
The Motion Computing M1300 and the Acer TMC110TCi both feature an Intel Centrino mobile technology with the Intel Pentium M 900 MHz ULV. Intel Centrino mobile technology refers to the total architechure. This must be comprised of the Intel Pentium M processor, the Intel 855 chipset, and the Intel PROWireless card with 802.11b. The Intel Centrino mobile technology offers increased performance and longer battery life. Final performance tests have not been published yet and will be released when the new tablets ship later this month. Preliminary reports cite a performance boost of about 33 percent over the 866 MHz Pentium III-M chip and about 25 percent over the 933 MHz Pentium III-M chip. Although at first glance by looking at the clock speed you would think that the newer Pentium M would be slower it offers higher performance than the 933 MHz Pentium III-M. The increase in performance comes from the design of the newer Intel Centrino technology, which includes features such as a relatively large 1MB cache. The cache is used to store a pool of often-used data close to the processor core.
Motion M1300 with Intel Centrino mobile technology featuring an Intel Pentium M 900 MHz ULV processor
Shipping in late May, the Motion M1300 is the first slate style Tablet PC based on Intel’s Centrino mobile technology with a Intel Pentium M 900 MHz ULV (ultra low voltage) processor. The new model is housed in the same case and offers features similar to the popular M1200 model. One key difference is USB 2.0. Final pricing will be announced in mid-May but I expect it will be $100 to $200 more than the M1200.
Additionally one of the great benefits of the M1300 is that the accessories are the same as the M1200. This includs batteries, flexdock, power accessories, and other accessories...really everything but the faster DDR RAM. This means that customers who have purchased the M1200 can leverage their accessories into the M1300. Motion is very focused on making sure that our customers investments into Motion products are protected.
The M1300 is a slate-style tablet that ships with a separate keyboard and include a 12” screen. This sleek tablet weighs only 3 pounds. We offer the Motion with a 20, 40 or 60GB hard drive and 256MB, 512MB or 1GB memory. The most popular configuration is 512MB RAM, 40GB disk, a spare stylus, the Motion Software Pack, external DVD/CDRW drive and a docking station.
Acer TMC110TCi with Intel Centrino mobile technology featuring an Intel Pentium M 900 MHz ULV processor
The Acer TMC110TCi will be shipping in mid-May. The TMC110TCi is the first convertible style Tablet PC based on Intel's Centrino mobile technology. The new model is housed in the same case and offers features similar to the popular TMC100 model. There are two key differences; the unit now offers 512MB memory (many customers found the 256MB memory limitation in the first generation Acer Tablet PCs to be a handicap) and a 100-pin docking connector.
The Acer TMC110TCi kit includes 512MB DDR RAM, 40GB Disk, an external DVD/CDRW combo drive, 10/100 Fast Ethernet, 802.11b WLAN, 56K V.92 data/fax model, 10.4" XGATFTLCD, Li-Ion Battery Pack, 100-Pin Docking Connector, Full Size Pen, 1 Year Warranty, and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, all for $2299!
Please contact the InfoCater sales department if you would like to be placed on the waiting list and have final pricing sent to you.
