Joey
San Antonio

Joey is a nine year old, eleven pound, blue and white neutered Iggy.  His coat is nice and soft, if you can get close enough to pet him.  He suffered from no vet or real owner care.  He is dying to be loved but is scared someone is going to hurt him.  He'll only come up for the treat with urging and then fast as a wink back to the safety of his bed.  Joey is house trained and I don't think he has had an accident in the house in spite of the wet weather recently.  He is a day and night sleeper.

Walk on a lead?  What is that?  He is all over the place and doesn't have a clue.  Joey was scanned for a micro chip which was traced to the Bexar County animal shelter but no owner was registered to him.  We have taken to leaving a short lead on him so I can catch him when I need to.  He doesn't like to be picked up and stiffens up like a board when you finally get him up.  He is a tail wagger but at a safe distance from people.  He goes into the crate when called, but reluctantly, so we have the leash just in case.  He is a pretty dog, if you can call a male pretty.  His face is white with age and his coat looks and feels great.  He loves to bark at the back fence with the other two iggies, to let the big dogs on the other side know whose place this really is.

It is really a shame for him to be so scaredy cat, but so far, if I walk up on him he'll scoot to the other bed or around the table.  Only when I offer the held up blanket on the day bed will he come and sit down under it but don't try to touch him or he's gone.  I guess to some potential adopters this behavior would be a no-go, but he is a nice dog and maybe someone can get him to allow loving or at least petting a little.  He doesn't snap when picked up but he doesn't like it.  Did I say, he likes to eat?  Well he does and that brings him out of the bed.
