I bought "Newt" about 6 years ago and he was so energetic I had to get him a yard, and then felt bad leaving him home alone all day while I was at work. So when he was about 1 year old I rescued "Little Man" from IGCA rescue. A little guy who was not fond of people even to this day.
Newt got sick a few months ago ( I cry as I write this), he was sick because of the dog food poisoning and got down to like 5 lbs, while the vet did everything to keep him alive. They cut him open from ribs to peter and squeezed all his intestines out and his gaul bladder.
He seemed to be getting better and was gaining weight but was so thin he was finding ways to get out of the back yard, in 5 years at the house he had never found a hole. Apparently he was getting out for some time and my neighbors would put him back in the yard, so one day I got home and he was gone. We found him hit by a car the next morning.
"Little Man" was so distraught over the loss of "Newt" he sat by the door and cried every day, and looked out the windows when cars went by. I am sure he would have been with Newt if he could have fit through the very small hole I found in the fence as the only possible culprit.
I contacted IG rescue again, I had to get a friend for "Little Man" he never was much of a people dog and stays within darting range of the doggie door to escape. So they hooked me up with a lady who had Bianca a big beautiful red headed IG. Little Man was beside himself. He quickly overcame the loss of Newt whose ashes are on the mantle now, but still cries whenever he hears Newt's name and looks out the window. I never had a puppy snare my heart so much before and tears run down my cheeks as I write this.
If you have the opportunity to be loved by an IG, take the chance, despite all the heartbreak of losing one, the happy days are worth it. IGs live for you to love them, how people give them away is beyond me. I would fight tooth and nail anyone trying to steal my Iggies.
I have been asked to foster, but I think I am too soft a heart to ever let one go! It would be the Iggies' house. They have beds in every room so they can sit wherever you go, and sleep at the foot of the bed at night under their own blanket, they are the best foot warmers, and hardly shed at all. They lay around on the couch all day and play in the yard, if aliens landed they would think Iggies ruled the world.
God Bless IGCA Rescue
