President Releases New National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace

Released earlier this year, the National Strategy for Homeland Security is designed to protect us from terrorism in the United States on Federal, State, local and private levels. Accordingly, the President has now implemented a strategy for the protection of cyberspace, which is essential to defense and economic security, as well as critical infrastructures. The National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, which supports both the National Strategy for Homeland Security and the National Security Strategy of the United States, promotes secure U.S. information systems and protects against malicious attacks in cyberspace.

Sony Announces Mandatory Firmware Upgrade for AIT-3

Version 0102-CY29 of the AIT-3 tape firmware is now available. This firmware release is considered mandatory for all AIT-3 customers, as it includes important drive enhancements.

(Preface: I found the following story written by Hays Goodman of Newspapers and Technology highly interesting, as well as alarming. While it may seem absurd that USA Today could overlook such a blunder, the article illustrates that every computer is vulnerable to similar attacks. This type of situation could potentially damage the credibility of a legitimate business and would certainly cause embarrassment. We recommend that every business have some sort of monitoring, whether it is internal or outsourced. Hybinette’s Alpha Upgrade Program is Practical and Economical

According to CNET News, the Alpha chip will be completely phased out by 2004. Although the Alpha chip was once considered an example of state-of-the-art technology, its life cycle is near completion. Compaq decided it was too costly to develop future Alpha processor designs and also thought the chip was “running out of steam.” Today, Alpha replacement parts are increasingly difficult to find, which makes repairs slow and extremely complicated. In the near future, it will be impossible to repair Alpha CPUs.
