DENVER -- Denver-based seismic processing firm, Tricon Geophysics, says they are extremely pleased with its newly-purchased Hybinette RAID storage system.

The 5-Terabyte RAID storage unit, purchased by Tricon January 2003, was purchased to handle the demands of the rapidly-growing oil and seismic processing company.

“Over the past two years while searching for the best RAID storage solution extensively, we came across Hybinette at several tradeshow conventions,” Larry Irons, Tricon’s IT Director said. “After testing the Hybinette RAID in our Denver facility, we saw how well it worked and knew we would like to purchase it to run with our new SGI Origin 300. In the seismic industry, having a RAID that can handle high I/O quickly and efficiently is of utmost importance. With our new Hybinette/SGI hardware configuration, we can process a job five to seven times faster, improving our bottom line. Our turnaround times have been reduced and now we can tackle additional work in time we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

Irons continued, “Also, the Hybinette RAID was installed and operational within 45 minutes of arriving at our front door -- for us, an unheard of achievement in any previous installations. Transfer rates have also been extremely impressive – we can transfer a 4.5 Gigabyte file in 40 seconds from one LUN to another in a single data stream. To sum it up, we are very pleased with the system and recommend it to anyone with large file requirements.”

The Hybinette Zativa RAID line is designed specifically for businesses that demand speed and rapid access of large files. Hybinette has worked exclusively with massive files in industries such as graphic arts, oil & gas and supercomputing. Hybinette storage solutions range from 365 GB into the Petabyte range, are host-independent and attach to virtually any system, including SGI, SUN, Linux Clusters, Intel, IBM and Apple.
