New Macs are shipping out with identical node numbers on them. Like the Mac addresses, all node numbers must be unique on a network or the computers will not talk to each other because of conflicting node numbers. It is possible to by-pass this issue by changing the node numbers. Instructions are listed on www.apple.com.
