Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Honda Crosstour
New features for 2012 add value to an already loaded car.

Honda has always been known for its pioneering engineering. The company has gone its own way since its inception, and that philosophy has been fantastically successful. Often, Honda has brought the right idea to market at the right time, and underpinned it all with jewel-like engineering. When contemplating a new type of vehicle based off the Accord sedan and offering more utility, Honda could have taken the easy way out and just created a wagon or a smaller crossover to fit beneath the Pilot. Instead, Honda created the Crosstour®.

The 2012 Honda Crosstour is a distinctive take on the crossover vehicle. It's sleekly designed with a raked profile that suggests sportiness without sacrificing cargo area beneath its hatch. The bold looks are enhanced by a wide-shouldered stance and a ride-height that's increased above most cars, but not so high as to interfere with entry and exit. Honda adds more standard features to the Crosstour for 2012 including a rearview camera, Bluetooth phone integration, automatic on/off headlights and a USB interface.

There are two Crosstour models for buyers to pick from, EX and EX-L, and the entire model line has earned "Highest Ranked Midsize Crossover/SUV in Initial Quality" from J.D. Power and Associates. The 2012 Honda Crosstour EX (MSRP $30,340) features a 271-hp 3.5-liter V6 that uses i-VTEC® variable valve timing and lift along with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM®) to deliver power without sacrificing efficiency. VCM shuts down some of the engine's cylinders when full power isn't needed, saving fuel and contributing to EPA economy ratings of 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the EX front-wheel drive configuration.

The Crosstour EX is very well equipped, in addition to its muscular, efficient powertrain. A 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat and four-way power passenger's seat are standard, and the standard 360-watt audio system with six-disc capacity and USB and auxiliary inputs works with the comfortable seats to create a soothing interior environment. The rearview camera integrates its display into the interior mirror, and foglights, privacy glass, heated power side mirrors and a power moonroof are all standard in the Crosstour EX as well.

Buyers who need the capability of Honda's Real-Time 4WD system or who are looking for more luxury can choose the Crosstour EX-L. To the EX-trim equipment, the EX-L adds leather upholstery and heated front seats, and also wraps the shiftknob and steering wheel in premium cowhide. A two-position memory function is added to the driver's seat, and the side mirrors with Reverse Gear Tilt-Down also store their settings in the seat memory. HomeLink® Remote Integration and XM® Satellite Radio are also included in as part of the EX-L trim. Externally, the Crosstour EX-L can be spotted by its standard 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2012 Crosstour EX-L with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation adds voice-activated navigation and displays the rearview camera on the LCD screen, along with guidelines for easier reversing. All Crosstour models are built upon the solid basis of the Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which protects you better in frontal collisions by ensuring crash forces are directed through the energy-absorbing parts of the body. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) is also standard, and integrates with the antilock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist to keep you on your intended path. Front, side and side-curtain airbags – with an Occupant Position Detection System for the front passenger – and active front head restraints are also part of the standard Crosstour safety kit.

Safe, sleek and sturdy, the 2012 Honda Crosstour is a clever answer to the vehicle needs of buyers who are looking for something unique without resorting to a truck or settling for just any old wagon. Honda's experience tuning powertrains and underpinnings gives the Crosstour the power and moves to keep up with your sporty side and an abundance of interior space for passengers and cargo (up to 51.3 cubic feet). Going your own way has always been part of the Honda mystique, and the Crosstour will go there with you.
