Carnival Cruise Lines to Name New "Fun Ship" Carnival Liberty
Carnival Liberty is the name chosen by Carnival Cruise Lines for its new 110,000-ton SuperLiner scheduled to enter service in fall 2005.
The fourth in the line's 110,000-ton Conquest-class series, the massive 2,974-passenger 'Fun Ship' will be constructed by Italian shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A.. Carnival Liberty's homeport and itinerary have yet to be announced. Carnival Liberty represents the seventh Carnival Cruise Lines "Fun Ship" to be constructed by Fincantieri dating back to the 101,353-ton Carnival Destiny, which entered service in November 1996. In addition to Carnival Liberty, Carnival's current order book with Fincantieri includes two other 110,000-ton "Conquest-class" vessels - Carnival Glory, set to launch year-round seven-day Caribbean service from Port Canaveral, Fla., July 19, 2003, and Carnival Valor, set to debut in fall 2004.
