Selling Airline Tickets - A New Approach
Clients are still getting their airline tickets from travel agents in nearly the same numbers as before the airline commission cuts. The difference today is that agents are selling tickets at discounted net rates and are charging a fee in place of the commission. Ideally, the customer gets the best price, even if the service fee is included in the price.
Some travel groups state that people booking travel through internet sites get the lowest price about 30% of the time. People who use travel agents or travel agent sites got the best price 70% of the time. Remember, your commission share is based on these fees and many independent agents are earning more now than prior to the elimination of airline commissions.
Think about selling groups. Some airlines are still paying commissions for international group fares. This includes Europe, the Carribean, Central or South America and most other foreign destinations. Delta and American may pay between 15% to 20% for group bookings. Other airlines will pay similar rates. These rates depend on the time of year and the departure and destination city. Remember - You can still earn income through airline tickets.
