Carnival Takes Delivery of New 88,500-ton Carnival Pride
In a hand-over ceremony at Kvaener Masa-Yards in Helsinki, Carnival Cruise Lines took delivery of the new 88,500-ton Carnival Pride on December 12th. The Carnival Pride is the 16th vessel in the line's "Fun Ship" fleet.
The Carnival Pride sailed on its inaugural cruise, a six-day western Caribbean voyage from Miami on December 30th and then conducted a number of overnight inaugural events. On January 12th the Carnival Pride began its regular seven-day eastern and western Caribbean itinerary from Port Canaveral.
The Carnival Pride offers a variety of amenities and facilities, including 16 themed bars and lounges. Other features include a health spa, duty-free shopping mall, an Internet cafe, four swimming pools, a children's play area, a wedding chapel and a conference center.
Dining options range from Mermaids' Grille, a 24-hour pizzeria, the two-deck high Mormandie formal dining room and David's supper club offering stone crab claws from Miami Beach's famous Joe's Stone Crab restaurant.
Another feature of this new ship is that 80 percent of the ship's staterooms offer an ocean view. The majority of those cabins offer private balconies.
In addition to the Carnival Pride, by 2004 five other ships will be joining the fleet - the Carnival Legend, the Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory and Carnival Valor.
