NOTE:  This is an interactive discussion and please be prepared for active participation – we want your input!

As we have discussed at two previous summits involving leaders from HPD, Harris County Sheriff, District Attorney, Criminal Courts, ministry experts and key pastors, there is no greater "combat zone" ministry reaching hurting and broken lives to bring healing than the people our judges, city and county law enforcement officers and prosecutors deal with every day.  Our goal is to better coordinate church involvement from the "street level" by working with and through our men and women in the above entities to transform lives from troubled families to incarcerated and post-release mentoring.  To do that we must equip more churches with critical training.  Only change from the inside out will stop the generational cycle of destruction, and true change involves spirit and soul.

Our objective - have a regional inventory of fully trained and ready congregations in every corner of greater Houston and Harris County to which our judges and officers can direct, send or even sentence those who need help.

Please join us to provide your input as a “minister” in your field of service to help get more “boots on the ground” and bring transformation where it is needed most!

RSVP to info@uspastorcouncil.org by Monday, June 13 or call 832-688-9166

Parker admits estimate wrong on drainage fee
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7...
by Chris Moran

(EDITOR'S NOTE) The article below about Houston Mayor Annise Parker is further evidence of just how broken Prop 1 has been from the beginning as Coalition For a Greater Houston (Houston Area Pastor Council has been a pivotal part) repeatedly exposed.  The devastating size of the commercial drainage fee bills has yet to be given proper attention!  The flawed numbers the mayor is just now admitting to were exposed months ago by former and current Tax Assessor/Collectors respectively, Paul Bettencourt and Don Sumners, but ignored by all city leadership but councilmen Mike Sullivan and C.O. Bradford.

Pastors and church leaders - please do not forget that you would have been receiving the five and six figure drainage fee bills if not for the coalition effort of which this ministry was a central part.

The implementation ordinance and the fee can be corrected by a new city council and mayor - hence our next major priority.  We cannot have godly and good government unless we choose godly and good leaders to serve in the decision-making positions.  We the church have been irresponsible in the city of Houston on that count – but no more.  It is time.

We are now calling on every pastor in every church that the name of Jesus Christ and practices the authority of the Holy Scriptures to join us in taking responsibility for the spiritual, moral, cultural and political condition of our communities.

That means we CALL godly men to run for public office.  That means we EQUIP them to run and serve effectively.  It means we PREPARE them to govern in the fear of God and respect for our state and federal Constitutions.  It means we VOTE – every eligible citizen in every church, in every election.  We are without excuse.

Update on Texas Taxpayer Savings Grants
Combines budget savings and educational opportunities

Texas Lawmakers,

Taxpayer Savings Grants can save the state over $2 billion this biennium to help

plug the current budget shortfall. Taxpayer Savings Grants are a voluntary

statewide program that would allow parents to transfer their child from a public

school to a private school and use a Taxpayer Savings Grant to pay the tuition.

The amount of the grant is equal to 60% of state average school operating

expenditures or actual tuition, whichever is less.

Researchers John Merrifield and Joseph Bast estimate that Taxpayer Savings

Grants would save Texas more than $2 billion over the next two years. Their

findings are contained in the recent report, “Budget Impact of the Texas

Taxpayers’ Savings Grant Program,” published by The Heartland Institute and the E. G. West Institute for Effective Schooling.

Taxpayer Savings Grants would provide educational services to the same number of students at a significant savings to taxpayers. In fact, it would provide preferred educational services to Texas students. Those preferring to go to public schools would be free to do so. Likewise, eligible parents preferring alternative

educational services would have that choice as well. State taxpayers save money and parents gain a choice. It’s a win-win.

NOTE:

Some questions about federal funding and federal IDEA regulations affecting private schools have recently come up. Let me assure you, there is no federal funding in the Taxpayer Savings Grants proposal and this means there are no strings from the federal ...
