Update on Houston Prop 1/Rebuild Houston action!
We just received confirmation that the mayor may plan to bring the ordinance up for a vote after the public hearing on Wednesday, March 9, so we have solidified plans as follows below. The churches are galvanizing and we also need ALL coalition members to lock in and get people out to both the Tuesday "pop off" session for city council and the public hearing on Wednesday morning.
Because of the mayor's apparent plan to put the ordinance up for a vote after the public hearing on Wednesday, March 9, we need to pack out council chambers both Tuesday afternoon (3/8) and Wednesday morning (3/9).
The public hearing begins on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., with Dr. Young and Second Baptist taking lead for filling the chambers and I would suggest all other involved city pastors come either Tuesday or Wednesday to assure we have solid turnout for both from every demographic!
Wednesday is showtime and we are urging ALL coalition leaders (business, school, grassroots, etc.) to make plans to be there if at all possible. We need to pack out the testimony time with our "big guns". Testimony sign up occurs Wednesday morning prior to the start of the hearing so you need to get there early to be at the front of the line!
We are leaving the March 22 major rally date on the calendar until after Wednesday based on what happens. It is very likely that one of the council members will "tag" the vote, which - if not overturned by 8 votes - delays the vote in this case until at least March 22.
Tuesday, March 8 - City Council public testimony "pop off" session
1:30 p.m., Houston City Council chambers, 901 Bagby (second floor)
Wednesday, March 9 - Rebuild Houston public hearing
9:00 a.m. Houston City Council chambers, 901 Bagby (second floor)
