Great Moments in Sound History
Charlie
Chaplin describes his first impression of sound engineers in the early days of
talkies:
Elaborate radio equipment was installed, involving thousands of electrical wires. Men geared like warriors from Mars sat with earphones while the actors
performed, with microphones hovering above them like fishing rods.

Gotham congratulates our Emmy nominated clients!
Alistair
Crocker is in contention for Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing For A
Miniseries Or A Movie for his heroic traipsing of a
Sound Devices 744T and a
Cooper Sound CS208 mixer around Hungary and Morrocco for "The
Ten Commandments."
|
And with various non-sound related nominations:
Congratulations to all the nominees! (Although we'd love to see some
NY-based productions up for sound awards next time around. Support our boys
and gals who labor for great sound in one of the loudest, most RF stuffed environments on the
planet!) |

Gotham in Studio Daily
Gotham's Peter Schneider showed up in
Studio Daily article holding forth on some of the issues hampering a smooth
transition of media from the sound mixer to post production.“There’s an old adage that still holds true, ‘If a sound mixer gets more that
one call from the telecine house, that usually means they’ll get fired,'” notes
Peter Schneider, partner at Gotham Sound, an audio rental and sales house in New
York. "Unfortunately there's been a lot of problems with the telecine houses
trying to figure out solutions to deal with this new media and the sound mixers
have been taking the heat for it."
