Eighth Annual May Madness a Success

All of us here at The Granary would like to thank everyone who helped make our eighth annual May Madness a success. This year was one of the best May Madness sales yet, and it wouldn't have been possible without you, our customers. A lot of effort went into preparing for the event, and it is always gratifying to see the look of joy and satisfaction on the face of a customer. This year we saw a lot of familiar faces, and a lot of new ones. Congratulations to all of the door prize winners; if you have yet to pick up your prize, or need to get a list of this years winners, call the Farm at (419) 859-3785. Again, thank you, and we hope to see you all very soon!

June Recipes

This month’s recipes from the Gooseberry Patch: Cooking With Family and Friends cookbook will definitely please your summer palate! On hot summer evenings, my wife hates heating up the kitchen, and I’m sure you do too! I usually go out and fire up the grill and show off my own culinary skills for the family. This first recipe is easy to make and will keep the heat out of your kitchen and where it belongs, outside!

Key Lime Grilled Chicken (pg.154)
Robin Stansberry
Talbott, TN

3 T. soy sauce
1 T. honey
1 T. olive oil
1 med. lime, juiced
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Mix soy sauce, honey, olive oil, lime juice and garlic in a small bowl. Arrange chicken in a baking dish and pour marinade over top. Refrigerate one hour. Remove chicken from marinade; discard marinade. Grill chicken over medium hot coals for 10 minutes each side.

Strawberries are now in season! This great strawberry recipe will be a great finish to any summer meal.

Strawberry Trifle (pg. 209)
Beth & Chuck Reynolds

2 8-0z. pkgs. cream cheese
2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. sour cream
1-1/2 t. vanilla extract, divided
1/4 t. almond extract
1/2 pt. whipping cream
4 T. sugar, divided
1 angel food cake, cubed
2 qts. strawberries, sliced

Cream together cream cheese and powdered sugar. Add sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and almond extract; set aside. Blend whipping cream, remaining vanilla and one tablespoon sugar; fold into cream cheese mixture. Add angel food cake pieces. Combine strawberries and remaining sugar. In a large glass bowl, layer strawberries then cake mixture. Continue layering, ending with strawberries as top.
