Solutions in Action
It’s a Virtual World
Lee Nicholls, Global Solutions Director
Improving IT Compatibility, Application Provisioning and Management Through Virtualization Technologies.
It's a fair assumption that in the enterprise space, most organizations’ strategies now focus on using Information Technology (IT) as more of a business asset than a mere service to the company. Many organizations are increasing IT spending in areas such as unified communications and collaboration, and then extending beyond, into business process improvement.

ITIL v3: Don’t Panic!
Nigel Arbery, ITIL Master and Lecturer, Consulting and Transformation Services
What every organization needs to know to be prepared.
Where do you start with a topic like this? The WISDOM of WiFi Tags
Tony Dubendorf, Ph.D., CISM, Chief Technologist - Wireless Solutions
According to Thomas Heideman, Manager of Clinical Engineering at Palmetto Heath, he found that for the same amount of investment needed to deploy a separate infrastructure to support up to 500 RFID tags, he could use his existing 802.11-based wireless infrastructure and deploy 3,000 wireless fidelity (WiFi) tags to cover Palmetto’s main hospital building, as well as its Cancer Research Center. Zombies, BotNets, and Cloakers - Oh my!
Nicholas Brigman, Director of Marketing
The computer security field is beginning to sound like a sci-fi/mystery/horror movie. Recent arrests by the FBI have gone after the masters of botnets, software robots that run autonomously. These nefarious individuals use botnets to remotely control thousands of people’s computers, either for money or political motivation, turning the compromised computers into an army of “zombie” machines ordered to carry out their ill intentions. What’s more, the owners of the computers in this silent army have no idea their computers are moonlighting under the control of the bot master.

We are proud of the many designations Getronics has earned and pleased to announce our latest — Flexible Workplace Employer for 2007. Like many organizations today, we face a growing need to offer flexible working environments. People want to maximize their contribution by being able to work virtually from locations that fit their needs. Our Future-Ready Workspace is the key to enabling this business solution for us, and for many of our clients.
The Getronics Future-Ready Workspace empowers people to work together productively, securely, and effectively — wherever and whenever they need. Business performance rises as the workspace facilitates people to be more effective. And we ensure the Future-Ready Workspace continually evolves to meet the changing needs of people. Believe me, we are our toughest customer! Our employees constantly provide feedback on ways we can improve the solution, making it even better for us and for our clients.
The benefits of our Future-Ready Workspace extend well beyond increased productivity to include enhanced employee satisfaction. People can now enjoy flexibility in working location and hours. They can realize personal cost savings and more personal time as their daily commute becomes simply an e-commute.
Additionally, one benefit of the solution addresses another hot topic. Besides improving productivity and employee satisfaction, virtual offices help reduce the carbon emissions associated with commuting and running office spaces. The Future-Ready Workspace solution enables workplace flexibility that helps contribute to “going green.”
If you want to know more about being flexible and future-ready, contact us. We enjoy sharing our successes, and want you to be successful too. That’s why we share ideas, tips, and insight into relevant issues, such as workplace flexibility, in every issue of The Workspace Wire. We hope you enjoy this issue.
