In a recent user study, conducted by Rick Saia of the Aberdeen Group and underwritten in part by Getronics, consumers of outsourced Information Technology (IT) services cited varied levels of productivity gain beyond cost savings among their IT staff. Analysis of the participants’ responses stratified companies into the following categories: best-in-class, industry average, and laggards. The contrasting results were staggering.

We’ve all been told the “wow” starts now, and that Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Exchange 2007 are going to revolutionize the way we work, bringing us untold cost savings, as well as moments of pure joy and elation. But what is the reality for enterprises? Exactly what is the ‘wow’ for a big company running XP or Windows 2000, with multiple generations of hardware and numerous custom applications? Since Windows Vista was launched in January I’ve heard it called many things, from an Apple Operating System (OS) clone to XP service pack 3. The reality is there’s a lot about Windows Vista to get an enterprise excited - you just have to know what you’re doing and where to look.
